The Museum of Kerala History was the idea of Late R Madhavan Nayar who was philanthropist and industrialist of Sea Food industry. He had a great interest in art and was an expert in this field. Thus, his passion in this field led to building of this museum which is managed by the Madhavan Nayar Foundation.

Museum of Kerala History Kochi looks splendid with its circular dome-shaped structure. The lush green premises feel very welcoming to all its visitors. Just outside the museum you can spot a huge statue of Sage Parasurama who is said to be the creator of Kerala. 

The museum has paintings and sculptures dating from the Neolithic period to the current era. It is a famous historical place and you have tourists as well natives coming here to watch the displays that have been put up.

Art Gallery at Museum of Kerala History

Museum of Kerala History has over 300 original paintings of famous artists like Manu Parekh, M. F. Hussain, Ravi Varma, F. N. Souza, Nandalal Bose and Jamini Roy. Many mural paintings are also displayed here. 

The most famous one is Shakuntalam by Kalidasa which measures 25-ft-long and 5-ft-wide. This masterpiece is done in the traditional Kerala mural style and its colours look vibrant. Some world renowned paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michael Angelo have also been reproduced and displayed here.

Sculptures at Museum of Kerala History

The museum showcases more than 50 sculptures of artists like Sarbari Chaudhary, D. P. Roy Chaudhary and Bajaj that has been placed in the different parts of the building.

Indian Miniatures

This museum displays miniature art of all types including Mughal, Rajasthan and Deccan. These art look spectacular and the artists have definitely put a lot of hard work in showing the minute details. These displays go back to the 16th century and they have been made by Indian artists under the guidance of Persian master.

Doll Museum

The Doll Museum has a huge display over 150 dolls dressed up in outfits from various states of India. You can see the attire and jewellery worn by men and women from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. These are handcrafted dolls and are mostly dressed up as brides or grooms. Apart from this you can also find dolls from other countries, dance figures and of people engaged in different activities.

Light and Sound Show at Museum of Kerala History

Light and Sound show of this museum is beautiful and it shows the history of Kerala for the past 2000 years. The show is one hour long and has music as well narration along with the visuals.
