Shopping in Kochi

While most of the tourists visit Kochi to enjoy the calm and quiet backwaters and hilly terrains, not many know that the city can be an exciting shopping destination as well. 

The city has quietly expanded its shopping options and today along with roadside knick-knacks and mini stalls near the beach, there are many luxurious shopping malls offering some best of the brands available in the market.

The shop claims that these apparels have positive effects on health as well. Bed linens are also sold here that are said to be good for back pain and yoga mats are infused with aromatic health potions. The shop has two branches - in Mattancherry and Fort Kochi.

Cinnamon – This is an ultrachic shop located just opposite the parade ground. One can find beautiful ethnic apparels, Indo-western designer garments and stylish houseware that make a perfect gift item.

Crafter’s - This handicraft shop is a favourite among most of the posh hotels in Kochi, who gets majority of their decor items from here. The shop is loaded with antique wood carvings, woodn boxes, pillars, doors, stone crafts and many more. It also has a cafe on its upper floor. Crafter’s is located in Mattancherry.

Fort Royal – This is a one-stop shop for various types of Indian handicraft items. The shop has a lovely range of exquisite Indian art pieces ranging from marble inlay boxes, Kashmiri carpets to local precious gemstones. The shop is located in Fort Kochi.

Jayalaksmi – The shop is loaded with some of the best south Indian silk sarees, lehengas and western outfits for both men and women. Jayalaksmni is located in MG Road in Kochi.

Some other shopping places that might interest you in Kochi are M. Srinivasa Mallaya for an exquisite line up of garments, H. Broadway – This place has some luxurious designer shops and some great quality of spice merchandise. The Footwear Bazaar in Broadway offers a good ensemble of footwear and bags of international brands.

There are a number of shopping malls in Kochi and the number seems to increase every year. The famous ones are Lulu International Mall, Oberon Mall, Gold Souk Grand Kochi and Acer Mall. Others include Abad Nucleus Mall, Bay Pride Mall, The Centre Square Mall. The Q1 Mall is currently under construction.
