Janaseva Sishubhavan in KochiJustice V.R. Krishna Iyer, brainchild behind Janaseva Sishubhavan, started this initiative to provide shelter, love and care of the unfortunate and homeless children in Kochi. The mission of this institution is to rescue children from the clutches of goons and mafias in Kochi, who use these children to beg in the streets. Very often these children are subjected to physical abuse and mental torture. Many of them are forced to amputate their legs and arms to look more convincing while begging. Janaseva Sishubhavan with the help of police force and other non-governmental organisations saves these children from having a gruesome life and provide them with all the basic fundamental rights such as shelter, clothing, food, education and dignity.
Over the years, Janaseva Sishubhavan has rescued more than 1000 children from various corners of Kochi and offered them a happy and content life. The organisation initially began by providing educational materials and scholarships to bright children’s from poor families. Later it extended its programme and provided daily lunch to over 300 destitute children. In 1999, the Janaseva Sishu movement started with an aim to rescue children from the social evils. Along the course several other ancillary projects were also taken up by the organization such as Janaseva English Medium School, Janaseva Senior Boys Education Project, Janaseva Boys Home and Street India Movement.
